Lecture Luca Chiapperino Epigenetic responsibilities: values-in and values-out post-genomic knowledge-production
October 22, 2019 @ 11:00 am - 1:00 pm
On the 21st and the 22nd of October, Luca Chiapperino of the University of Lausanne will visit us. On the 22nd, he will give a lecture on Epigenetic responsibilities: values-in and values-out post-genomic knowledge-production.
This talk explores notions of “epigenetic responsibilities”. Its objective is to detail how moral concepts of responsibility for one’s health (and for future generation’s health) intersect with the re-emergence of epigenetics in the post-genomic age. In particular, the talk addresses questions such as: how are these responsibilities constructed in knowledge-production on epigenetics? How do specific readings and discursive representations of epigenetics lend legitimacy to alternative notions of responsibility in the wider society? What are the strategies to defuse/deconstruct these claims on epistemic, ethical and moral grounds? The talk approaches the theme of “responsibility” from two intersecting analytical perspectives grounded in applied philosophy and Science and Technology Studies (STS).
